At least 102 police personnel may undergo retraining for violating gun ban

At least 102 police personnel may undergo retraining for violating the nationwide gun ban during recently concluded May 10 elections.

Besides retraining, some police personnel may face criminal and administrative charges, Radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported, quoting Philippine National Police chief Director General Jesus Verzosa.

The "schooling" is expected to reorient the policemen, helping them abandon a trigger-happy attitude and encourage the proper use of their firearms, Verzosa said.

The PNP had already recommended 10 policemen dismissed for violating the gun ban, the radio report said.

At least 20 more face suspension, while 15 face demotion for violating the gun ban.

The gun ban, which started last January 10 to curb election-related violence, is still ongoing and will end June 9.

More than 2,200 people — including policemen, soldiers and government employees — have been arrested since Jan. 10 for violating the ban. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
